Superstar Spotlight: Illuminating News from Stevens PTA, January 2025, Issue #1
Planting the Seeds of Growth in 2025

As we kick off another exciting year at Stevens Elementary, I’m filled with optimism about the opportunities ahead for our PTA and school community.

A warm welcome to our new principal, Mr. Vacca! We’re thrilled to have you join the Stevens family and look forward to collaborating on initiatives that enrich our children’s education and strengthen our school.

I encourage everyone to consider how you can help our PTA grow. Membership is the foundation of everything we do, and your time, skills, or ideas can make a meaningful impact. Together, we can introduce new programs, enhance current offerings, and create fresh ways to engage our families and students. Let’s make 2025 a year to remember!

As we look to the future, we also honor our past. To recognize Dr. Evans’ incredible service to our school, the PTA has purchased a tree to be planted in his honor—a lasting tribute to his leadership and legacy.

Thank you for all you do to make Stevens such a special place. Here’s to an amazing year ahead!

January PTA Meeting Highlights

Mr. Vacca, our new principal, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and shared updates including procedural changes in food distribution for the Backpack Program, Chromebook use on buses, and exciting plans to incorporate more technology and student-led announcements in morning updates. His first weekly parent update debuted last week, and he will also contribute updates to the PTA newsletter.

In the Teacher's Report, Mrs. Pfeifer reported the successful completion of the fourth-grade video project and shared plans for Lunar New Year activities with district-provided resources.

The PTA’s fundraising efforts are ongoing, with a June 6 Fun Run officially on the calendar. Current funds in the bank total $30,886.

Upcoming events include

  • Science Night at MiSci in Schenectady, 1/21, 5-7pm, with planetarium access
  • Ice Skating, 1/29, $5 for Stevens Superstars
  • District-wide Science Night, 2/2, at the high school
  • Family Dinner Night, 2/12, is in planning stages with a taco menu, and the committee is working on developing the placemats
  • Tickets for Founder's Day awards dinner will go on sale at the end of January

Enrichment Clubs need parent volunteers to help lead activities like Cupcake Decoration, Volleyball, Lego, and Crocheting.

Finally, iSmile portraits are booked for next year, and the PTA will be looking for two to four volunteers for this task. Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to get involved!

The next PTA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 6:30pm in the Library. To view the full meeting minutes via Google Docs, please click here.

Celebrating Spartan Spirit

Thank you for the warm welcome and thoughtful basket from the PTA! I love the BH-BL swag and am proudly representing our Spartan pride. Your kindness means so much!

I’m excited to share that this “From the Principal’s Desk” section will be a regular part of the PTA newsletter, giving you an inside look at the exciting things happening at our school.
